With a local population of 84,000 citizens, the municipality of Herning is known as a textile town, and for its trade fairs, conferences, culture and schools.
Herning has more than 25,000 active athletes being members of more than 100 sports clubs. The municipality gives high priority to sports facilities for elite athletes as well as the athletes within sports for all.
The area is most famous for its handball, soccer, ice hockey and cycling. All sports events enjoy large local support and great enthusiasm.
Herning is a fantastic event city. It is a central part of the city Council of Herning’s strategy to host major sport events on an international level.
The city of Herning has, already, considerable experience in organising large
events, such as the 2009 World Wrestling Championships and the Women's EHF EURO 2010 Final.
